The Illinois Railway Museum including not only trains, diesels, buses and steam engines as well and interurban trolleys and elevated trains has come a long way toward being appealing and visitor friendly. The exhibits are much more interesting and well done than in the past. With a restaurant and gift shop on site be prepared to spend the day.

My family loves this museum!! Amazing variety of railroad machinery and memorabilia. It's a must see for anyone interested in trains and American history.

Such an amazing place, all of my favorite childhood memories are from here and I hope everyone with even a tangential interest in trains gets an opportunity to visit at least once in their life (but since it's so large and fun you'll probably want to visit a few times)

Fun place and worth spending the full day at if you like trains or have kids who like trains.

One of the best and the biggest locomotive and rail museum in the country. When I first heard about it, I was like what’s so great to see in a Rail Museum other than couple of classical and dated engines and trains.nnBut wait till you get there, Oh my it was worth every single minute we got to spend.nThe history, the tradition, the heritage and most importantly the legacy it has enlightened on us was mind boggling. Truly an amazing art of engineering and creativity and the knowledge that you get to experience is very inspiring and amazing.nnI totally recommend this museum to all to pay a visit to this amazing place once in your lifetime. If you want to know the history of our train and rail culture then look no further, this is where you belong.nnThough it was established in the early 1960’s but only in the 1990’s did it develop and establish to what we see now.nnWhat’s unique about this museum unlike any other museum in the world where by you are only able to see and not to touch anything (I could be wrong) but in my years of travel and experience this could be the only museum or one amongst the few museums in the world whereby you can not only see, but touch and even ride in one. And the best part is, you personally get to experience and pilot some of the trains and try out how it commuted (well guided ofcourse).nnAnd most importantly if you board on one of the train it goes all the way approximately more than 5miles, so make sure you are well planned and prepared cause there is lot to see and experience.nnOnce again I highly recommended this museum especially to families and kids. I truly enjoyed my time here, hope you would too.nnWonderful staffs and management very friendly, gentle and polite.
