Abuse of Coco, Sugar, and Yogi, who didn’t ask to be taken from their mothers, used as props for human entertainment, and then dumped into a concrete pit of misery. No animal deserves to be treated like this. These cubs should have been playing, exploring, learning, and socializing with their mothers. This is inhumane and we know better. Do not support this horror show.
I was horrified to learn of Cherokee Bear Zoo's treatment of their bears. This organization exploits its animals for money-period. What's worse is the bears are kept in barren cement pits. This has nothing to do with the paying respect to the Cherokee tribe or promoting wildlife and harmony with nature. Please report this animal abuse and DO NOT support this zoo!
I urge you to please release all the bears to an accredited sanctuary where they could live in vast, naturalistic habitats and get the care that they so desperately need and deserve.
We LOVED this place! The staff was so nice and engaging. The bigger bears were playful and caught the food we threw to them. They all looked healthy and well taken care of and their environments were clean. Our favorite part was taking a picture with the cub. The handler explained how to hold him before he brought him to us and the little guy didn't even wake up! Prices were more than fair and we look forward to going back when we're in Cherokee again!
I have so much guilt after visiting this place. The animal enclosures were entirely to small for these beautiful animals. The animals are well fed and healthy in appearance, and the enclosures are clean. Healthy interactive habitats need to be designed.
