(Visited Feb 2020) This is a really great museum that I’m glad we have here in Berryville. It displays the history of African-Americans in Clarke County, and the struggles that they had to go to create the community of Josephine City.

Really interesting history here. Although the wordages is severely outdated.

The museum is in a historic old building that was the only school for the black community. The exhibits focus on the prominent, if uncelebrated, role of African-Americans in the history of Clarke County. The museum sponsors a book club and many cultural events each year. The museum is open to the public on Sunday afternoons or by special request. It is a hidden gem and worth the trip to Berryville.

Very informative piece of history. Wonderful vocal presentation by Dorothy and additional history by Dee. This is a proud tribute to the African American slaves who upon being free, built and developed their own small city and schools. Well worth the time spent there.
