Center closed but the park around it still well taken care of. Trails open and maintained even after big storm the few days before.
Fantastic place to walk your dog. Walking trails are pretty quiet during the weekdays. In this time of year is especially great. Tons of turtles in the water which the kids seem to get a kick out of. We are lucky to have such a park in the community.
Living not too far from here, this is our go-to campground when we want to get away for the weekend. This is a city run campground so it is entirely run by the city/rangers. The entire campground is beautifully wooded and sits on a reservoir. There is a ton of walking trails that go throughout the entire park. They have an archery range and golf/disk golf courses. 5 mile gravel bike trail with side paths. If you follow the correct paths, you can cycle all the way down to Yorktown beach. Its about a 18 mile round trip and a bit hilly but fun and runs through some historic sites. There are some nice parks with swings/slides for the kids and a discovery center over on the other side of the reservoir. Unfortunately you cant bike to it easily as the only trail/bridge across the reservoir is hiking only. you would need to go out onto the busy 4 lane road to bike to it. The sites are huge! some though are not level and a few have a treacherous grade. The flat $35 per night fee is year round. They have water and electric sites only with a few dump stations. All in all this is a really nice campground for the money. we stay here about 3-5 times a year.
Good area for walking around the park
THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE CAMPGROUND:nnNo wonder it is booked up all yearround. This place is so nice, kid and pet friendly. Lots of stuff for kids to do around. Campsites are big and comfortable. Most of them are shaded with lots of trees around which keeps a cool temperature.nLots of things to do there and around there. The office staff is really friendly and helpful. The shop is pretty well stocked and they have firewood for sale, all you can carry for $5. Huge bike trail, very quiet and peaceful, about 3 miles. We really loved this place when we camped back in October 2012.
