My favorite running trail on the peninsula. Lake and river views are spectacular. Watch out for roots on the trail, but lots of fun hills to run up and down.

The museum is closed but awesome. First time on the trails. Well maintained and enjoyed them with family

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Lovely place to walk, run, jog, sit , relax, feed ducks, birds ,and turtles. Lots of little quiet areas. 5 miles all around its a great peaceful place.

Noland trail is a perfect free hike for the whole family. Took our family of four 100 minutes for the 5 mile loop trail, no stops as we rushed to get out before closing time. We even walked after twilight, having started late and enjoyed our shadows in the crescent moon light. Unpaved up and down trail pretty much the entire stretch. Museum to lions bridge on the west side trail is 3 miles. Option of a shorter hike on the east side following the meadow path and avoiding the lake path. Can do a 3 mile east lake and meadow path hike without venturing to the other side.nnWe have to be careful of the many protruding roots and the small metal edges at some places. Fascinating for the kids with a whole lot of bridges, benches, some overlooks, gorgeous sunset from Lions bridge and the wild sculpture nearby, a handful of blue herons, some rock art to pick or rehide and a peek into Lake Maury. Park is open till sunset. Confusing signs also say gates close by 6pm and 8pm. No restrooms or water fountain access during Covid-19. Plenty of parking on the museum side north trailhead. Smaller lot on the south James river side. Plenty of photo opportunitiesnnMariners museum ($1) closed during the pandemic. Misled by Google maps in the summer. Will come back when it opens.
