Intriguing historical site in Newport, a seemingly simple stone tower with a lot of debate on its origins. Some people claim it was built by Vikings during the Leif Erikson expeditions, while others believe it is the remnants of a Portuguese or even Chinese built structure. There’s even a small group of people (my mom included) that believes it was built by ancient aliens! Whatever its origins, it makes for a wonderful place to sit, think, and enjoy the day.
The tower in Tuoro Park is a staple of the upper Bellvue area. Come in the late spring, with the cherry blossoms blooming. Totally incredible.
Been to Newport many times, recently found out tower was by the Knights Templar, amazing architecture considering the times no power equipment.
