This is a small museum where the original entrance to howe's cavern used to be. In the building they have lots of rocks to look at and lots of pictures from when the cavern was new. You can see into part of the basement ad they are working on restoring the building.nnThey have guides that will bring you down into the original entrance and let you see some of the start of the cavern. Sadly party of the entrance is collapsed due to the original operation going bankrupt and having to sell to a mining company.nnThere is still an active mine next to the building, and the mine still owns the land.nnThe guide we had was a volunteer and very knowledgeable. She was eager to talk and answer as many questions as people had.nnOur kids also got to look for fossils in rocks right next to the museum. We had a great time and enjoyed the basic natural feel more than the overly commercial and pushy feel of the near by commercial cavern.

I've gone on a tour into the caves twice and just recently I helped with a small clean up. The people that work there use up their own time to educate the public and love what they do.nnThe museum itself is small and so is the cave but the amount of information crammed into it makes up for it. I believe tours are scheduled by calling the museum so be sure to check with them before heading to the site!

This is a great place to visit if you are interested in geology. A great side trip if you are going to the Howe's Cave area. We visited the cave - a natural cave once connected to what is now Howe's Caverns. This is NOT the commercial cave but a natural cave and is the original entrance to the Howe's Caverns system. The cave is not open on a regular basis, on Saturdays in July and August. Must call ahead.

Great place for a quick visit. Husband and wife were very knowable, kind and out going to guide us through the museum. Also took a tour in the cave.

Good place to visit. I went off hours and still was a decent place to visit.
