i would of gave this place 5 stars just because the grist mill still stand but i give it 1 less because the town really needs to put away boxes and other things to that doesn't belong there and set it up the mill to be a better attractive museum. the tour guide was friendly and a cool person to talk with but i think he might be self taught about the history of the mill. anyways he did know that with in a mile stretch on the creek was about 8 mills and without them rensselaerville might not exist today. so this mill has some major importance in the towns history. the mill was rebuilt in 1880 after the previous mill burned in a fire in 1879 and you can still see evidence of the fire. the rensselaerville grist mill out of all the other mills is the only one stand and i'm not sure but there are at least some evidence of the other mills. the town really should make a hiking trail along the creek and put up plaques of each mill. that would be a great draw for the town to have a history hiking trail. well, if you appreciate old mills and builds this would make a nice stop for you.
