This is truly an amazing collection that is well worth the drive to Heyworth.
This museum has posted hours of Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 1-5pm. We traveled 2.5 hours to get there on a Tuesday and they weren't open from 1 to 1:30, the time we spent waiting for someone to show up. We called the contact number on the sign, but nobody answered. It may be a nice museum, but call ahead before traveling there. Very disappointing.
This museum has an incredible collection of military history that spans the civil war to Afganistan. Gary the owner and curator is there to answer any questions you might have. Gary allows you to look uninterrupted at your own pace. Or, if you ask, he will gladly talk you through each piece and tell you its rich story.
A fabulous military museum. Love the rotating displays. So many uniforms. I really appreciate Gary's ability to tell each pieces story
