This was a fun place to visit, but I think a great deal of that had to do with our tour guide Jasper. It was obvious he not only had interest in the property history, but also enjoyed sharing it. Great with the kids and very patient to the many questions they had. The jail itself has a fascinating history and many stories behind it. I highly recommend going. St Augustine is a tourist trap of the highest order, with lots of sites that are an absolute waste of time in my opinion. This place, to me, is a 'must see'. If you are there for only a day or two, put this and the Fort on your list.
Cool spot! Was here around 1982 as a kid and today brought my own daughter. Changed a bit since I was last here, but seemed even better!! Our inmate host/guide Patrick was awesome! We had a great time!!
Patrick was absolutely hilarious! The family friendly innuendos mixed in with the history makes for an informative and educational experience. We left feeling like we learned so much about the dark history of the prison system and how far it has come but needs to continue. Patrick was very well informed on the topic. Definitely ask for him to be your guide (if that’s possible to choose)!
Tour guide is the most vital factor that this experience would be great or not. Jack undoubtedly brought the best experience for my family trip to the old jail!nnHe really deserves an Oscar coz he is so into his character. Although it is scary to listen to the torture and inhuman treatment of the good old times. We had way more fun than we expected that’s for sure. Thank you, Jackud83dudda4ud83eudd0d
The Old Jail in St. Augustine has been a family favorite for years now. The jail tour itself is fun, and also gives you a quite extensive history lesson about the jail itself, and life in Old St. Augustine. The guides and actors are great. Always a fun time, even after taking the tour multiple times! On a side note - the gift shop is great! Prices are fair and they have a great selection of St. Augustine themed merchandise. Take a look!
