This is the oldest house in town and in the country, 300 years old and counting! The experience inside the place is quite simple, but educational at the same time. If you wait for the guided tour then you’ll have more information on every room. However, we did the self-guided tour and it was very nice too. They give you handouts (they are available in English and Spanish) and you can discover facts and more information about the house while walking around by yourself. Staff is very nice and courteous. I do recommend it.
I'm definitely glad we stopped. It was really neat being inside a 300+ old house but I thought $23 for a family of 4 was a little steep. Apparently, there were other parts to see but they were shut down for a wedding. The lady at the front who was at the gift shop was super friendly. The man at the front of the house giving us a little history was also very friendly and helpful.
While certainly not the oldest house in America, this historical museum run by the St Augustine Historical Society is well worth a visit by tourists and locals. The bookshop at the front is well stocked with local literature as well as history texts. Tours of the grounds are available by local volunteers. Perhaps the greatest asset are the lovely grounds of the complex. Also worth visiting are the well curated maps collection.
Your trip to St Augustine won’t be complete if you don’t visit this historic spot.nnThe oldest house has a museum and a house tour.Front desk staff are friendly and they have a small gift store at the entrance.nnThere isn’t much to check around except for the house and the maps gallery. But they have got enough history to keep anyone occupied for at least an hour.nGood spot to stop by for a short historic tour.
Its a nice relaxing historic tour slightly off the beaten path of the other areas of the city. Its partially guided with some history. There is also a bathroom, for when you walked 2 miles to get there and need to use it...
