Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Amarillo

Got to Amarillo for the first time and was expecting a small, quaint, clean motel. That is NOT what this is. The staff is nice, but scarce and they were doing major painting in the hallways. The hallways themselves have a dank nursing home smell to them detectable over even the wet paint. It is very outdated and every piece of furniture, even in the lobby, was stained and dingy to the point of not wanting to sit on anything. The door to our room I found out, just as a fluke, opened without a key and the latch seemed held together with paperclips and chewing gum. There has obviously not been any updating beyond major necessities in at least 10+ years.nThe bathtub and beds on the other hand, are obviously new and are comfortable and clean. The rest of the place though leaves much to be desired.They are obviously trying to upgrade the accomodations some, but instead of closing for a week or so to renovate have chosen to remain open. The tiny indoor pool, though clear of debris had so many chemicals in it that the fumes will get you high just walking in the room.I was uncomfortable letting my 2 year old swim with my husband after sitting in the tiny indoor room for less than 5 min. as I began getting lightheaded even while sitting next to the open window.nOverall, I was completely underwhelmed and would recommend for the price point to stay somewhere else and pay the extra $10-20.

Good location! Pet friendly! Helpful staff. Clean rooms. Do note it there is some construction during the day at the adjacent hotel but their done by 5 and you can get a good night's sleep.

The staff is wonderful. It is a nice property that I would give at least four stars, except the location is not the best. However, the poor location leads to a good price. I really cannot comment on the breakfast, b/c it was limited due to the pandemic.

The room was very small and dirty. The bed skirt had white stuff sprayed all over it. The bedding was stained. The light fixture was stained. The beds were hard. There was no breakfast. For a room sleeping 4 there were 3 towels.

It was ok. We stayed here because it was cheap and they accepted dogs, but our room had a few drawbacks. There was no carpet, the room didn't smell great, the TV was small and practically mounted on the ceiling, and the dog fee they charged was more than they said it would be. For the price there are nicer hotels in the area.
