New Paltz Police Department

Had a situation at Tops grocery store where there was an individual with a ten year old kid defying the executive order to wear a mask when you can not social distance.nnI complained to the store management. They told me they gave the persons a copy of the executive order and offered to give them a mask, and the individual cursed out the store employee. I asked the manager to call the police and they would not. At that point I decided to call the New Paltz police.nnThe dispatcher told me I had to wait outside for the officer because I shouldn’t expect him to go in the store and walk up and down every aisle. It wasn’t like I was asking the police to find a hidden Easter egg in one of the aisles, but ok.nnWhen the officer arrived, he was really nice. But he definitely did not want to enforce the order. He told me he would go in and “recommend” the individual wear a mask.nnIf the New Paltz police department won’t enforce a public safety order, then I suppose I would be free to have a party with 60 people on my own property, wearing no masks.nnThe department should put something out publicly that says, “Yeah, it’s a public safety order meant to protect citizens and the continued shut down of their businesses, but ahhh, we will let that go so we can give people stop sign tickets and tickets for speeding six mph over the speed limit.”nnThere should be a new executive order that allows citizens to defend themselves against those who blatantly want to pose a risk to their health and safety, especially since we can’t depend on our police department to do it.nnSo if you go to New Paltz, you are considered dangerous for not stopping a full three seconds at a stop sign but you can walk around a store for two hours potentially spreading a virus to the store workers and customers. ud83dudc4eud83cudffb

Not going into details. I was pulled over by the police and was ticketed. I was wrong but felt I was doing something to prevent an accident. No one wants to get pulled over. I have to say the whole thing sucked. I will say the officer was great to deal with. LIke I said it sucks to get pulled over, but if it has to happen, I could not have asked for a more respectful officer. He gives respect and calm in a bad situation. I hope to never get pulled over again, but if it happens, I hope the officer is as great as this one was. Not sure what he does besides patrol, but he should be a trainer for others. With everything that's going on in the country against police, this officer shows that they may not have the most respected job, but it can be done with understanding and respect.

What I suspect was a late-night Airbnb party on Plains Road about two weeks ago was getting way out of hand. I called the cops, asked for a cruiser to check it out & in 15 minutes, the party was over. Kudos all around.

Abuse the law against college students. Very disrespectful. Otherwise fluent with their job.
