The Bois Blanc Island Historical Society is a must-visit if you are traveling to Bois Blanc Island in the short, seasonal window that it is open (First Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday in July throuogh till Labor Day)nnAs a bastion of the small island's history and heiritage, the historical society has a lot to offer in the way of elucidating visitors of the island's vibrant history.nnDespite being a small island, the history is surprisingly deep, with natives living on the island, a plannned resort district, several burnt down buildings (one, ironically, was the Fire Dept.) and the alleged hideaway of infamous gangster John Dillinger are all part of the island's folklore.nnForr a few dollars, they will give you a relatively simple map, labeled with some sights to see off the trails that branch around the island. If you get lost while exploring these trails, don't worry as you're never more than 10 minutes away from the cost, and with it, the main road.nnAdmission is free, and it really is quite interesting to see the pictures, tools, and history that shaped the island into what it is today. The building is pretty small, so a complete tour reading everything will take you little over half an hour if you are thorough, otherrwise a walkthrough is only a couple of minutes to appreciate the island's heiritage!
