San Felipe de Austin State Museum is a hidden gem. You would not think when you drive by that its anything special, but it is. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. They can adequately explain all the history encompassed in the museum. The design and detail inside are second to none. Please see attached photos to my review. I recommend going during a time when they are not busy. This gives you ample time to give yourself a history lesson. It is home to many historical pieces my favorite being Stephen F. Austin’s desk he traveled with. History meets technology perfect blend. Texan bucket list for sure. They only charge seven dollars. I would have paid more

The new museum has been open for 3 years. First time we've been to it. Very much improved! Lots of history layed out very well. Sorry I only took wildflower pictures.

Great place if you have a taste for Texas history. Convenient drive and good parking. Great place to visit with kids these days as everything is outdoors.

Very nice new state museum. The facility and exhibits are impressive and informative. The museum is dedicated to one thing, that is the settlement of San Felipe de Austin. This is a story you never even hear, but one can arguably say was more important than the Alamo. So close to Harris and surrounding counties that it can be done in a half day but I recommend taking a full day trip to take it all in.

Very cool piece of texas history. There is a museum across the street as well. Don't miss the memorial to John Bricker behind the statue of Stephen Austin. Amazing to think of the conflict that occurred there.
