Clay County Sheriff's Department

I was being extradited from the west coast to the east coast by a private extradition service. They lease cell space at this jail. They use it as a central hub for their business. For instance It is kind of like a layover point if you are taking flights long distance. You get off of one plane. Sit at a location for a while then get on another plane for the last leg of the trip. I spent a week in the back of a minivan going from Utah to Clay County Mississippi jail. I sat in this jail for a week. Then was put in another van to Philadelphia. Another week long trip.nAfter spending various amounts of time in various different jails and prisons. I can honestly say this was the most horrible place I was ever at. So bad that it should really have a federal investigation into the conditions at the jail. The walls are always wet with black mold covering every inch of wall space. There is no ventilation. The stench is incredible. You are not even given basic amenities. No sheets. No change of clothes. They only let you out to yard once a week. The food is very little. Just enough to keep you alive and it is disgusting. There is zero Medical Services. And zero staff supervision. They don't do count ever. You could easily die back there in the cells and they would not know. Nobody is looking in on you. Just getting toilet paper is a difficult task. It was a terrible experience. Very unprofessional staff. Do yourself a favor and never get locked up in Clay County.

Had to get a friend there. The staff was decent and the friend said they where overall nice. Getting arrested is never fun but it was not difficult to bail out.
