This building provides a rare glimpse into early colonial times in Maryland. Growing up near the Fort was exciting. Every Halloween we would walk by the fort (trick-or-treating) and expect to see a lantern in the window or smoke rising from the chimney.nnIf you look closely in the pictures you will notice a line where the original one story building was enlarged to two stories. There is a loft inside accessible by a ladder, this was not part of the original building.nnThere are several beds along the north wall and a large fireplace with a iron support that swings out from the side to support a large pot or kettle. The hearth is set up for cooking as well as heating the building in the winter.nnThere is also a long wooden table with benches in the middle of the first floor.nnThe building is under the charge of Baltimore County Parks. Once a year (before COVID-19) the fort was opened and people in historically correct clothes (rangers) and Baltimore County Parks host a thanksgiving feast, complete with period foods.nnThe picture of animal tracks was taken less than 3 meters from the Fort last winter. There is still a lot of wildlife in the area including deer, rabbits, fox, birds, and squirrels.

Legacy of pre-Revolutionary time, and former slave quarters, this building sits amidst suburban homes on a cul-de-sac. A small plaque set into the ground distinguishes it. Not a museum, no access.

The Garrison Fort is NOT a museum. More like a landmark. It's a centuries-old, small one-room house that is almost never open to the public. Still, you can look at it, walk around it, peer through its windows, and read the historical plaque that's posted there. In November, each year, there's usually a group of reenactors who set up an encampment there and open the Fort, show period activities and cook period food. Very interesting.

I don't think it's a museum, but it's pretty awesome that it's still there.
