Very determined to match adoptable pets with the right family so their adoptions are successful. Nice facilities there and it's clear they really care. They even made follow up calls to us to see how things were going after our first few days.

If you want to meet the kindest and most compassionate people in our area, please visit the shelter to meet the staff and volunteers. And if you share their values, do consider adopting one of the animals who would love to have their own forever, loving home.n~ Mary Jo Doig, Batesville, VA

Super caring and very nice people. They genuinely care for the animals and were a huge help to me when I needed their assistance with some feral cats on my property. I highly recommend this place for pet adoptions.

(Short version-poor Board management/mismanagement, ship newly advertised cats to Massachusetts (where supposedly they all get adopted in 5 days), please don't take a small child here with their heart set on an animal as they may already be on the list to head up North). Over all animals seem to be definitely well cared for just seems that there is poor management.nnMy husband I have been here twice, so at this point I feel okay writing a review. The staff is very passionate about their animals, so much so the first time we went we didn't even know if they adopted animals out or just kept them permanently. We do want a good fit for our home and we tried to be pleasant the first time, but we went looking for a cat and their worker that day did not look up any of the cats we were interested in. Most of the time was spent talking about dogs (that wouldn't fit for our family), showing pictures of other people's dogs, and their success stories. Again, we were very polite, but over an hour later left dismayed.nRecently, we decided then it was probably a fluke and that we should give the adoption center another chance as we had found another cat we were interested in and just wanted to meet. We found the cat we wanted to meet and play with in the lobby, he was listed as cat of the month oh, and the website had encouraged us to come meet him; however, when we arrived the same employee was working. We were told that we could not adopt the cat even though it had been listed less than a week ago. We were told that the Board of this facility pays a lot of money to ship the cats to Massachusetts for adoption and all the cats in the lobby would be leaving probably by Monday. I had spoken with another worker of the facility just that day and they had mentioned the cat was adoptable,a we'd make an excellent home, and just fill out an application.my husband was a little irritated to say the least at this point and stated it made no sense that if there were nice adoptable homes in the area why would these cats be shipped to Massachusetts. To be fair, the employee tried to make accommodations and called the individual who arranges transport and what animals are sent, who stated that she guess we could have that cat if we filled out an adoption application right then and there or made a decision by 6 p.m. that day only. We informed the staff that we needed some time to think and were told that we had until 6pm that day or he was going to MA and that he was being taken down off the site as of this review he is still listed as the cat of the month but is not on their adoptable page.nMy husband and I felt that that was unfair to the cat as we really wanted to meet him and then make a sound decision as we were adding a family member and not a piece of luggage.nI typically try to avoid negative reviews, but my husband and Iwere concerned that some parent would take their small child here, have their heart set on a cat, and have the child's heart broken.nFor those thinking that we're just a family that should not have a cat and are writing just a disgruntled review---we own our own home, have helped run multiple farms, our animals get BarkBox, treats, and receive regular veterinary care. Have adopted before. We typically spend more on our animals than we do ourselves.
