This is a must visit. Very informative museum and a great place. Only major drawback. While the museum its self is handicap and wheelchair friendly, the grounds are not. If you have trouble walking do not attempt to tour the grounds. Gravel paths make it difficult for wheelchairs and walking with canes is near impossible. They have no staff to be able to come get you if you walk to the end and cannot make it back on your own. And you are not allowed to bring a vehicle to the original visitor center location for handicap pickup. This is a shame because touring the grounds is the best part. It would be nice if they improved handicap accessibility on the grounds.
An excellent place to visit if your a historian or Billy the Kid fan! The museum is packed with authentic artifacts and paintings to feed your mind a grade A meal. Be prepared to be both excited and humbled to learn the good, bad and ugly of America's past with the Native Americans!
Enjoyed this... Great to see Ft Sumner didn't just concentrate on history of a certain outlaw but told a story about what was happening in the area as a whole.
If you’re passing through - definitely stop. The ranger on duty had so many stories - was so knowledgeable. I learned so much. The museum was gorgeous and thoughtfully done. Very sad and very significant history.nnPlus - see where Billy the Kid was shot - and where he was buried.nnVery, very interesting.
We visited during Spring Break 2019, and we had a wonderful time! The staff was kind and informative, and the exhibits were interesting and fun. We especially loved being able to interact with the animals. I highly recommend you visit!
