A very high quality historical society depicting historical events of Deer Isle with lots of authentic items(antiques) from the periods. A great place if you want to look into the old rural Maine life-style from the 1800s.
If you enjoy history you'll enjoy this experience. The docents do a great job explaining the exhibits. We enjoyed wandering around the different buildings and learning about the area.
Simply the most impressive historical society I've seen in rural America. Fascinating displays, a comprehensive examination of this island's fishing and nautical history, as well as its industries and the lives of its residents. Much credit goes to Tinker Crouch and the rest of the dedicated volunteers who fund, staff and support this institution.
Interesting place for all things historic on Deer Isle. Very nice and knowledgeable staff. Great way to spend an hour or two!
This is an important stop for every visitor to Deer Isle!
