As a child in the early 60s, before being exposed to Grand Funk Railroad and the psychedelic music beyond... Hank Williams was a man who touched a chord with me and anyone who had a heart or had felt/lost love.nnAfter hearing Midnight in Montgomery, I recalled Hank being born and buried in Montgomery AL, so I made plans to visit the gravesite.nnI’m from Wichita KS driving to Albany GA, so I listened to every Hank Williams album and collection I could find on Amazon Music, what an eye opening and amazing experience it was.nnI can now say I’ve heard almost every Hank Williams tune and especially interesting and insightful was his “live” work with Audrey on radio. Hours of wonderfully uplifting yet equally sad and depressing music which stills touches many of the chords of life.nnAs regards the gravesite, very respectfully done and until I got there I didn’t realize Audrey was buried beside him. You know, he did have a license to fight, eternally now!!!nnIt’s a simple drive up to the gravesite with a beautiful view... well worth the small sidestep south if you’re passing just north of Montgomery.nnI’m glad I had a chance to “See the Light”
This needs no explanation.. Powerful & surreal to be standing where my heroes have stood while paying respects to someone who made a mark on the world that CAN'T be erased or covered over.
I am sitting on my own in England listening to 1940's music and every other song is Hank Williams. I was privileged to visit his grave with my brother in 2012. A very beautiful and peaceful site. I also noticed some British War Graves to the left of the memorial. The whole experience made a lasting impression on me.
The history there is breathtaking
If you're a fan definitely stop by if in the area.
