I went here as a kid to find out how the atom is our awesome friend who's fun to hang out with, but what I didn't know, what I couldn't know, was the human suffering caused by radiation burns, the multigenerational price we will pay for nuclear fallout, and the hubris which this place is the definition of. I wish they would focus on that more. Or go the other way. Maybe they ought to execute some prisoners with radiation which would be cool to see.

We visited my parents from Maryland. My dad wanted to go to the museum. He called the museum to verify the hours and the recorded line gave the hours and did not disclose that they werenclosed. The website also shows the museum open. We drove 75 miles with my parents who are in their mid 80's, only to find the museum closed.

Everywhere showed this was open. Even when I called, the automated service listed hours without any interruptions. Drove 2 hours to find it closed.

We took our grandson today. A new, very well appointed museum, mostly (but not all) about things nuclear, related to Oak Ridge and the Manhattan Project . One of the staff members spent a considerable amount of time playing an energy distribution game on a large kitchen-table sized-touch screen computer. Very advanced and futuristic display. We also engaged in interesting conversation about Nichola Tesla and his energy research. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

Nice little museum showing the chronicles of Oak Ridge National Labs and its sister institutions. The media content is quite up to date and the current uses of neutrons in science and technology is a very nice touch, giving relevance to the laboratory in the present. I only wish that the museum offered free admission like its mirror institution at Los Alamos. They also have one of my samples, so that's pretty cool too!
