My son collapsed with an asthma attack in a driveway only four minutes away from Erlanger North Hospital in Chattanooga. The homeowner called 911 and it took 11 minutes for the EMS ambulance (MED12) to get to the address and another 9 minutes before they rendered aid but it was too late. They spent the 9 minutes 150 feet away from my son arguing about whether the homeonwner who made the 911 call was armed or not and woudn''t advance to render aid until the Chattanooga Police was on scene. Meanwhile my son lay in the gravel dying. They 911 operator did nothing to try and coach the homeowner to understand my son's symptoms better and render CPR other than to ask if he was still seizing. And she did a terrible job of making sure the EMS crew understood that the homeowner was not armed and posed no threat to the EMS crew. I complained to the chief of 911 services and he said everyone followed policy yet my son died. Neither 911 or EMS would take any responsibility for happened to my son. The operation was a success but the patient died.
