Very interesting pieces on display; uniforms, weapons, tack, maps etc. I loved the size of the museum because it was very manageable and we were able to see everything. The staff were very nice and helpful with any questions we had. For anyone with disparaging remarks. It’s history! In the last 6000 years of civilization there has been a lot of cruelty in ALL cultures and ethnicities. I for one would rather know the real history as it happened and not have it modified or erased because it’s unpleasant to think about. Grow up! “Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it” - E. Burke
A relic of the old south. The museum has knick-knacks and relics of the war on display. More interesting was the literature that cast a favorable view on slavery, and discount the role of slavery in the start of the war. They portray it as a war for states' rights, describe slavery as an institution that was going out of existence at the start of the war. Thought-provoking, led me to later look into the spread and increase in slavery before the war and read things like the states' articles of secession that better informed my views about the war.
We were here a year ago and wish we hadn't gone or given them any support. This is a confederate museum and it enshrines everything that seceding from the US was about.
Trashy place full of white-washed history. Save your money.
Outstanding Museum filled with such Great historical artifacts. Must see in Charleston. Staff very helpful, wish all people were this GREAT.
