Was there on a cold winter weekday so we had the place to ourselves. Its really beautiful and peaceful and a miracle it has survived with all the development in the area. Be sure and see the ruins under the big arbor which is on the property but you may miss it if you don't get directions

Awesome historical site to visit. My kids range in age from 4 years old to 11 year old and they had a blast looking at the artifacts, remnants of buildings and homes, the remnants of the governors mansion, and especially St. phillips Church. The church has great acoustics still even though it lacks the roof, windows, doors and flooring. It was an awesome teaching moment about acoustics and the children loved singing inside of it.

Jim Mcgee is like a walking encyclopedia. Also it was nice to see what my ancestors did

A hidden Gem on the Cape Fear. Have been going since the 60s they continual make improvements with added features..I've often thought they were some very tough and determined souls to carve out a life in this semi-tropical but harsh environment..but for personal & religious freedom there is nothing that can deter the heart and soul of the human spirit when seeking liberty of self.
