What a great little museum! There are 7 main galleries and a retail gallery.nnThe price is very reasonable, $4, and you can learn a lot. There are three main foci: Scottish history, the history of tartans, the interaction of Scots with Native American tribes. All of this is explored through clothing.nnThe galleries are narrow, so wheelchair folks will have a tougher time.nnThey'll also not be able to view the lower galleries.nnStill, what a neat place to visit! The store has tartans ties, kilts, books, and whiskey fudge!
This is a great spot to find wall hangings and other knickknacks from Scotland. They have beautiful heather jewelry and sterling silver jewelry that is imported from Scotland. The prices are similar to what I paid at the tourist shops in Scotland. They have kilts and all the accessories needed. The museum has a good history of Scotland- not too in-depth but deep enough to understand the hearts of the people. The history of the tartan is very informative. There is a loom set up with many mannequins to display the traditional wear. Only takes about 90 minutes in the museum, but worth the visit.
Visited with family. The museum is amazing; there's a lot more space than appears from the outside. Fantastic exhibits, including some tartans that went into space(!). Very friendly, knowledgeable staff (hi Jim!). Highly recommended.
Love this little place! Owner is always so nice about sharing history!
My wife and I are both of Scottish ancestry. We love all things Scottish. The museum gives a history of the development of Scottish culture, displays how Scots would have dressed in battle, and gives details on the Kings of Scotland. The downstairs portion of the museum gives great details about Scottish Tartans. The gentleman that was working the day we went was very friendly and helpful.
