Awesome piece of history. Highly recommend
Tells the story of one prosperous family affected by the battles as the Union took over their property for a headquarters and then a field hospital.nReally puts a human face on the war.
A small museum built in a family's home that was forcibly used as a makeshift hospital for wounded soldiers during the Civil War. Most of the exhibits consist of written descriptions and stories. Notably, the exhibits explain that the Civil War was one of the first American wars where photographers of dead and severely injured soldiers were made available to the general public, which provided counter-images to the cleaned-up, artistic paintings of war that the public was accustomed to. The public could see photographs of the horrors of the aftermath of war, to know what war caused and resulted in. Overall, exhibits are good, and there museum itself is pleasant.nnThose with mobility challenges should know that the second floor with exhibits is only accessible by way of a staircase. In addition, the inclined gravel path between the small parking area and the museum entrance may be difficult for some with significant mobility issues.nnAllow 30 to 60 minutes in the museum.
This was a great place to start our hike and research of the Battle at Antietam where general officers like MGen McClellan had to make the tough decisions on where to conduct his attacks. The Pry House has it's story and I recommend people make it a point to stop here.
No one goes here, but it is an important part of the battlefield. McClellan's HQ with a view back to the battlefield. Lincoln was here! Military medical museum. Really great to complete the tour with this visit. If the park service develops a better tram or bus tour this place will get more traffic.
