I am heartbroken to have to write a poor review of this school. The teachers that we have interacted with have been exemplary but the school administration - specifically the principal - is reprehensible. My son has a congenital illness that is life threatening however we have wanted him to have as much of a normal childhood as can be which means public school, normal friends and as many activities and fulfillment as he wants. Unfortunately when he is ill, it often leads to an extended stay at Primary Childrens Hospital until he is well enough to return home. This is a hardship for all of us; he hates being in the hospital and time taken off from work is only paid if there is vacation time to expend in addition to caring for our three other children. This is not a minor health issue: he was LifeFlighted to PCMC before he was a year old and is on daily medication (besides having a standby crisis injection in case of emergency). We don't let him stay home for a sniffle or cough and ALWAYS get authorization from one of his physicians when he does have to be out of school. We also don't keep him out of school on a whim or a family event (which we always schedule around school). Also, because of his condition he has a learning disability which means he needs some educational assistance which his teachers have been magnificent about providing. Unfortunately his illnesses have resulted in his missing 10% of the school year and so his principal has made it clear that if he misses any more school, he may fall into the category of "compulsory education" which means the principal will see that we're taken to court. It's plain that her concern is not our sons education but using threats to strong arm us into making sure our son is in attendance so the school will not lose a percentage of funding. We had so hoped that the neighborhood school where all of his friends go would be accepting and able to provide for his needs but it is becoming apparent that this is not the case. The rating from "GreatSchools" is also an indicator that this school specifically falls well below the average which means we are not sure about sending our other children there as they achieve grade school age. We are thinking seriously about other options for our childrens' education. I should also note that, although my son is very kind, popular and affable (even 5th grade students know and greet him regularly), he has made us aware of an issue with students that bully him. The school has "policies" that prohibit bullying but this does not prevent the actual activity. Lastly, the school refuses to have medical personnel available in case our child has a crisis. There is a school nurse (who apparently covers multiple schools) but there is no one available to assist our son although they are fully aware of his condition.

I am a student at edgemont for the.most part it is a decent school exept for the lunches. I complain about the lunches almost every day so if you send your kid there i recommend a home lunch

Current 5th grade student of 2017 in mrs. Sjogrens class! Love my teacher and a GREAT principle. I think the best part about this school is the teachers and the systems for example: boosters. It is activities when 2 chosen week days a class goes to a different activity there are 2 activities in each booster time. If you are looking for a school for your child. Edgemont would be a wonderful place. GO EAGLES!!!!!! 😆😆😆 -Isabelle Nielsen
