Fort Rock is an interesting rock formation with a cave and areas to explore. We came here many times over the years. Our sons always loved the area. Recently we came during the Oregon Gambler 500. I remember years ago some evidence of early civilization was found in a cave there.

Couldn't find the cave but maybe it was closed, there's a turnstile I went thru and the old man in the camper came and told me that area was closed. Maybe they should have had a sign up or locked the turnstile or something.

Very cool natural area! The hike inside the fort was fairly short under a mile. We will go back to hike the rim, and explore more including the museum and the cave nearby. Definitely start early as in like 7am because at 10 it was so hot we got through the hike as fast as we could because there is absolutely no shade.

What an amazing place. Gorgeous rocks. Trails to hike on. A place to picnic.

I really like this place. They have made some improvements since our last visit. It's a nice trail with beautiful views. There are restrooms and a picnic area. Great for a short hike or lunch.
