Loved this museum! Didn't expect the amount of artifacts and exhibit rooms that this building holds. There are even cabins and an old barn to see outside! I am a huge history buff and this museum definitely delivered! So many neat exhibit rooms: don't miss out on the mineral rooms in the basement nor the doctor/dentist/hospital exhibits upstairs either! We spent several hours here, but could have easily spent several more, simply to see and read everything they had on display. Highly recommend visiting this museum if you are in Ouray!
Absolutely a must see. There's A LOT of stuff to see and information to read and it isn't laid out in any particular order so don't overwhelm yourself trying to get to everything. I'd personally suggest starting upstairs. Also, a million thanks to the lovely ladies who work there for answering all my questions!
This museum is amazing with collections from pioneering families that show what life was like over one hundred years ago.
Extremely extensive local history. 29 rooms full of all sorts of depictions of life in ouray in late 1800's. Mining depictions , extrnsive dpecimen collection. If you are a history buff, you could easily spend several hours here.
Excellent museum in the old Euray hospital. They have displays on the Ute Indians, miners, mountain climbers, the hospital, a dentist's office, the Hope Diamond and the woman who owned it, etc. We spent 3 hours there!
