San Francisco Rent Board

If you do your homework before ignorantly calling, you’ll have a pleasant experience. They have too much work to do to answer all of your stupid calls when all of the information is right there online, you get what you give!nnEvery experience I have had was pleasant, although paperwork is very slow, and takes around 2-4 months to file a petition before ANYTHING happens. Just be patient. This isn’t a get rich quick scheme!

Here are my experiences as a tenant :nnSome counselors are Rude and incompetent and some counselors are knowledgeable and arrogant and some are knowledgeable and nice. Depends who you get.nnSame with the judges. Depends who you get. I personally had a rude, disrespectful, biased judge and I had a bad experience at the hearing. The feeling I got was that the judge was jaded and overworked.

Even if you have a hellish tenant or roommate, but if you own the property, don't expect the Rent Board to help you. They will send you away and ask you to find an attorney. The taxes you paid are being used by these people to employ themselves and to help your bad roommate/tenant against you. Welcome to the Communist city of San Francisco, where dead beat roommates/tenants and illegals have more rights than homeowners and legal residents. Say NO to Prop 10! Say NO to Communism in SF!

Worthless, don't waste your time going there. Couldn't even answer basic questions.

While the administrative judges are nice enough, there has rarely if ever been a decision made by this agency that is not in favor of the tenant, even in master tenant/roommate situations. The arbitration decisions are not enforceable on the master tenant/landlord's side, only on the side of the tenant. It is heavily slanted toward the benefit of a tenant, rather than being fair and balanced. If you've got a bad tenant, the Rent Board can't help you, but they'll gladly help your nightmare tenant continue to make your life a living hell. If you call them out on the fact that they only ever rule in favor of tenants, the staff gets pissy and rude.
