The 1st Greek Museum Outside of Greece.nnSmall and with no parking but I have to give credit to the people that made their inspiration a reality and built it. The museum guide, Dimitra, is very knowledgeable and kept the students' interest going. The presentation was interactive and in-depth.nnThe two top floors are great and worth visiting while the 1st floor changes themes but not as often. It is also used for other events.nnThe gift shop has many items and books to buy but none in the Greek language.
Overall, pretty boring compared to how interesting Greek history can be. They could have had more tying the Greek development of democracy to our American revolution against monarchy, showing how that influence from the ages shaped America. More of the Greek revolution for independence and nationhood would have been nice as well. There was some about it but they have plenty of space for more interesting details, and it's too beautiful of a story not to tell.nnThe only part I really liked was their library of Greek books and books on Greek-American life. Some books were obviously very fine and rare antique editions from the 1800s.
Went to the museum on Saturday afternoon 11/16/19 and the doors were locked. Drove in from the suburbs to join our son who had to do a college history project but all the doors were locked, there were people inside and when we called no answer. So we had great food at Greek Isles instead.
A great reminder of our heritage and so glad they are here. Espousing all things derivative from the ancient heritage of democracy and freedom applicable to today's social and cultural issues with topical speakers and other events, Greek or not. All are welcome and a beautiful facility able to host parties and other private events. I've been a part of both sides and had great experiences all around.
Find many Greek events, exhibits and connections! Then visit Greek Islands restaurant for a taste of Greece!
