My husband got my car stuck up a trail in the mountains and when asking for details he couldn't remember where the car was. He gave information that didn't correspond with the area. Sargent Markin went the extra mile to find the car. He actually hiked up the trail to find it. And although my husband kept telling him things that the officer knew were not true he was kind and respectful to him. He would let me know that he knew there was a problem with Larry's directions and followed the clues I had and found it. However he never let my husband know that he thought there was a problem with his memory. The Shenandoah Police Department deserve many prayers and thanks because they have a hard job that now a days doesn't bring much respect and they do it with respect and dedication. All of the officers that we met were real professionals. I can't thank them enough for a great job.

They are constantly giving conflicting advice. Had one try to tell me doing a return to sender on mail was illegal and a federal crime if it wasn’t mail that was in my name. I had to contact state police to make sure it wasn’t. I’ve had issues with a noisy neighbor lately that I was instructed to call noise complaints on. They came by understanding why I called and very polite the first time and then last night I call at 3 in the morning because they were so loud it woke my son and I up. That very same cop who told me it was a federal crime to do a return to sender, came over pounding on my door to tell me they had four units and they shouldn’t be held up on a noise complaint. 1. Not only is it not my fault that you’re short staffed but I had no way of knowing the department was short staffed last night. 2. I called in the noise complaint because the noise was waking me and my school aged child up. So the officer thought it would be a good idea to pound on my door to give me a hard time for calling in a noise complaint? Doesn’t make sense to me. A majority of the cops with this department have always been extremely friendly. This one cop ruined the whole department for me. If he’s giving out false information such as the return to sender being illegal and people aren’t allowed to call the NON EMERGENCY number for noise complaints, I’m sure he’s providing more false information to other individuals. Maybe consider more training before putting these people in uniform.

I wouldn't give one star. My 2year old son, cat and husband were driving to NY from NC when the hurricane hit Wilmington this year, he googled a hotel came up Hotel Stusburg absolutely beautiful place and I thought would be quiet. Within 4days I found a job, house, daycare. Well my story is police department came to do a well care check ONLY, Cause I had unplugged my hotel phone just nearest from all the stress, so 3 officers came banging on my door at 6pm I opened the door they said where is your son. He was standing beside me. Then asked if they could come in and look. I was very cooperative, until one officer asked to go through my purse I said NO and why, then I said go ahead. He then proceeded to dump all my belongings out the woman officer was a RUDE individual i was harassed by all means, integrated me for an hour! Long story short I told them from beginning do NOT let my cat out, well guess what they left both doors open my cat ended up on the roof my son came out as well, I'm up 2 flights of stairs outside. So point to my story they had no right to raid my room or treat me like they did. I will be taking a law suit out for this.

I was pulled over in this fine county of Shenandoah in a defamation of character situation. Apparently I share the same last name as a wanted criminal, so that’s good enough reason for them to follow me and surround my vehicle with (3) marked and (1) unmarked police vehicles. I was also with my entire family in my brothers driveway at the time, which makes this even worse. I was instructed multiple times to exit the vehicle. I complied and explained they had the wrong person as the repeatedly called me “Tommy” which is not my name. One officer which I can name if needed even said “I grew up with you now stop lying and get out of the car”! After I exited and provided my ID i asked the assisting officers if this was a complete joke. Apparently it was not. Once they ran my ID and realized they messed up I was never offered any form of apology. My 13 year old daughter was so scared she was in the back seat crying. What an embarrassment to the entire force. I guess the only joke in this situation is the police skills used. Protect and serve? More like pull over and Harass. I would though, like to thank my brother for hosting a great family get together.
