This museum was not even on my radar when we planned our trip to Canyon. I figured it would be small and old, and not suitable for small kids. Boy was I wrong!! This is one of the best museums I’ve been too; absolutely a hidden gem in this small town. There are so many exhibits. Interesting facts about Texas. Interactive things for kids. And even amazing art thrown in there too!! I was absolutely blown away and wish I could tell everyone about this place!! If you’re in Canyon, or even Amarillo, please make plans to visit!!

I rode from Hereford to here, at 13, alone, on a bicycle, just to go to the museum here. It was exciting in 1985. Id love to see it again. (review was for 1985 lol)

First let me say that we are very well-seasoned travelers and this review is not left lightly. It’s a very nice, clean, well-donated-to museum, with many different aspects to it, but it was overall underwhelming. We found ourselves wandering through loosely connected exhibits with varying items that didn’t fit together in obvious ways. The collection itself has great potential, but they lack intuitive organization. There was also a disproportionate emphasis on petroleum and the oil industry, so if that is something you are interested in, this is a great stop for the afternoon. We would have liked to have seen a more personal account from the perspective of the natives and pioneers in order to provide cohesion to what came across as scattered details. The highlight for us was the paleontology section, but perhaps because of our own personal interest. We really did enjoy our time here, but we want to give you a more accurate expectation of the experience. It was $12.50 for admission and may not be worth quite that much with the way it is organized at this time.

Way more variety than expected. The museum never seemed to end! It was worth the $12.50. Very clean and informative! Definitely would recommend.

This was a very informative museum. There were several hands on type of exhibits for the little ones. Our daughter was able to sit in a side saddle and a regular saddle, open drawers to reveal artifacts on display, and an Adobe structure to crawl through. There was a nice historical video playing in the movie theatre. This was a nice way to spend an hour or two. Entrance fees were $3 for children, 10 for veterans, and 12 for adults. Also close to down town Canyon, restaurants, and bakeries.
