This is a must stop due to the historical significance. The home belonged to the first African American political leader leader elected to congress not to mention the war time hero of the Union Troops. The home is well preserved with that southern architectural charm. Part of the historic aspect of Beaufort, South Carolina.

Cool history
It was really special to hear of the story of Robert Smalls life after his heroic taking of the Confederate ship and taking it to the Union troops. Then, how he went on to live a very accomplished middle and the home he bought and lived in in Beaufort.
