I still vividly remember the day, sometime around early 2009; a colleague of mine from Duke University, asked me whether I have taken my kids to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, North Carolina. My reply to him was that I have not heard of this place (I had just moved from New York). He said that in the next few years of my stay in Durham, I would be visiting this place several times, with my kids. Well, I don’t know if this colleague of mine had some physic ability or not; but over the 8 years of my stay, in Durham, I have realized how true his words were!nI have been a member of the Museum for the past 8 years and have visited innumerable times with my kids and my family there. I can’t say that it ever felt boring due to our repeated rendezvous. There are so many things to do that every time you might discover something new! They have indoor as well as outdoor attractions that can cater to the curiosity of kids and adults, alike. The only criticism that I would have is the entry price; it gets rather pricey if you are planning to take your whole family. I would recommend you to get an annual membership that entitles you to unlimited visits. That way, it gets much affordable in case you plan to visit multiple times over the year. And this time, I can be the Oracle, and tell you that you won't regret this investment in the education of your kids. Happy Exploring!

Children will definitely like this museum with both indoor and outdoor activities. On this beautiful 70 degree day we explored for about 2 hours. There are so many children’s areas that you could spend 4 or more hours and keep them busy (bring a lunch to eat at picnic areas or purchase something from the cafe). There is a farm area with some animals to view, several play areas, some where they can splash in falling water or play in a stream. Multiple tree houses, hammocks and areas to explore. There is a train (additional ticket required).nnOther special attractions are bears, wolves, lemurs, a large area with dinosaurs (egg hunting was available as their fund raiser). The butterfly exhibit was what we were interested in, but it fell short with the limited number of butterflies and the relatively small area. Be prepared it is very warm and humid. Another display included insects which are not my thing, but the large cockroaches and assassin bugs were impressive.nnAdmission is a little steep at $24 adult and $18 child. Plus any add ons like the train. Membership is available and would be a good investment if you live nearby.

A great place to bring the kiddos! We definitely cannot wait to go back again. There are so many exhibits inside and outside that we were unable to see it all. We had lunch at the outside cafe and the food was good. They offer sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, etc.

Great place. Love that the staff is empowered to ask adult guests to wear their masks properly, or leave.nThe extra protections for staff, animals and guests show they truly want to provide a great educational experience.nBought a membership today - will be bringing my 4 year old more now.
