If you order a faucet from Amazon or IKEA, you’re working with European parts that are a little more difficult to find at your local Home Depot.n* Most big plumbing companies charge an annoying “service fee” which they can often waive if you decide to go with their service. A simple faucet installation can range from $140 to $170.n* If you really want to go the cheap route without DIY, your better bet is to call a local handyman through TaskRabbit or Porch with hourly rates starting at $40. You’d also have to buy all the parts ahead of time (faucet, water supply valves, canned styrofoam, etc.)nnINTERACTIONn1. I just needed a simple faucet installation that I tried to do myself, but took 3 trips to the store while going “hulk smash” on my old faucet and would rather invest my time somewhere else.n2. A year later, I found my jerry-rigged faucet installation was leaking despite applying silicone to it.n3. Found Allisson’s plumbing through Yelp and it had no ratings. So I figured I could haggle.n4. Texted Oscar pictures of my bathroom cabinet and talked about the game plan: I would buy the faucet and figure out a way to cover up the giant gap in the drywall that a previous plumber did.n5. Oscar texted me ahead of time of arrival time, got the job done without fuss. He and his associate also helped me carve up the marker board I was trying to cut (like an amateur … plus they had another job to do afterwards) despite saying he doesn’t work with drywall (which it wasn’t, technically it was like plywood).n6. I bought other materials to give the bathroom vanity/cabinet some polish like dry anchor screws and “Great Stuff” (canned styrofoam) to keep bugs from calling up through hell and into my bathroom. When I provided Oscar with the foam, it was kind of a sloppy job which he could have used a paper napkin to smooth. But, I guess the day after I’ll just shave/cut it down to make it flush with the wall.nnOverall, I’d totally recommend Oscar for small plumbing work like installing faucets. Just be sure you do research ahead of time of what’s needed in a project and be prepare to do the fit and finish yourself. Also, support local businesses and to hell with “service fees!!”
