A wonderful place to visit when you're on the Eastern Shore. Beautiful place, great museum and nice gift shop. And the staff are fantastic.
The hostesses at the Barrier Islands Center museum made us feel right at home. We took our time exploring all of the interesting artifacts on all levels. main, second floor and attic. Then afterwards we watched a 22 minute film about life on Hog Island up until about 1939 when the last family on the island left due to the constant erosion from storms.nI highly recommend a visit to this museum when you are in Virginia's Eastern Shores!
Lots of great artifacts related to the 21 barrier islands of Virginia and the property.nnThis is a free museum. Make sure you put a donation in the donation box!nnThe tour is mostly self-guided, but a guide will briefly introduce you to the museum.nnCall first to check museum hours, as we are still in the thick of COVID-19 as of this writing.
Very nicely laid out. Gives one a feel for life on the barrier islands at that time!
