Kit Carson Museum at Rayado

My husband and I were there with Philmont Scout leaders and staff. So many people were reenacting historical figures from the southwest during the 1800's. My husband portrays the life of James Ohio Patty. A mountain man who wrote down his journey traveling from Virginia to California. It was a great time! Spring of 2019. Updated review Feb 20, 2020.

Staffed by interpretive reenactors the museum is an example of life on an outpost in the old west. Actual artifacts found on the property are on display as if still in use. Worth the visit. Easy drive down from base camp if it isn't on your itinerary. Plenty of parking.

Well done reconstruction on the compound, worth the drive.

Really cool! Worthwhile stop. They have blacksmiths, hands-on activities, and free guided tours with actors in period dress. Lots of history and information about the wild west, the fort, the people who lived in and around it and, of course, the Santa Fe Trail. Check it out!
