Absolutely wonderful educational 1hour 15 minutes tour. Very well explained and open to any questions. I highly recommend attending this free tour given by a knowledgeable guide who is an engineer who works there. Wide scope of related areas is covered in this tour. Make reservations early in advance. I'd even repeat this tour, if I should return to Woods Hole. A must for young people who might consider a career in related oceanographic studies from fisheries to ocean research, to developing new vessels for research and more. (A vast area of related career areas.) Much more involved than I would ever have guessed. Excellent for all ages, even a senior citizen like myself!

I was really excited to go here and it was fine. There are a few interesting exhibits and volunteers were helpful but it was not as awesome as I thought it might be. They ask for a $5 donation which is reasonable, some exhibits are pretty well done but others are run down.

Kids will love interacting with the life-sized model of Alvin. Really cool scale models of the Titanic.

The walking tour was geared more for older children and adults. And even then there wasn't much detail when we were not allowed into any of the actual research areas. I'm sure that their research The Institute does is quite valuable, just not sure that it's a good place to visit as a tourist.
