Service was delightful. Have been coming here for years and they cease to amaze, season after season. Larsens and the Menemsha are also good but Home Port certainly takes the gold for local seafood.
Classical place to go on the island for a lobster dinner. They advertise a beautiful sunset to the West but to be honest, the building's obscure The View and there are better places to see the sunset in the West. It's a fun place to take visitors for the first time to get a feel for what a Vineyard fishing village is all about. I prefer the restaurant inside rather than take out sitting on the picnic tables. But it's still worth a visit at least once.
We made reservations for a party of 7 for Sunday, 6/28 online a week prior. We received several e-mails, all confirming the reservations that we had made. We contacted the restaurant an hour before arriving to confirm that we could pay our check with a credit card so we knew whether or not to take cash out. We reached an employee at the restaurant, who stated that we could pay our check with a credit card. We made the trip from Oak Bluffs to Chilmark for our reservation (roughly a 20 mile drive). Upon arriving, we discovered that the restaurant was closed. We contacted the restaurant again and they simply apologized and said they needed to fix their website as it shouldn’t be allowing people to make reservations; they informed us they’d be open for July 4th and that they could move our reservation to then. A week away from our original reservation date. We declined as we would no longer be on the Vineyard at that time. All around a bad experience. I can’t comment on the food since we didn’t get the chance to eat here, but this restaurant is clearly unorganized and doesn’t care about their customers. Won’t be returning, even if they are open.
Highly disappointed with the experience that we had this evening. The host seated us within 5 minutes. Then the waiter showed up and we placed our order. The place is very nice inside but when the food came to the table it made our eyebrows raise. For appetizers we ordered: 1. Chowder that tasted nothing like chowder - too thin, had absolute no flavor no salt or pepper, had more clam juice than cream, just straight up clam juice. And it was a bit warm not even close to hot.n2. Oysters that were alright but cold. For appetizers we had to wait 25-30 minutes.nThe main course consisted of:n1. Scallops - that were poorly presented and didn’t look or taste appetizing at all.n2. Half chicken - wasn’t topped with any sauce which was very strange, asked the waitress for a sauce and she brought it 8 minutes later considering that the place was half full. The chicken had a lot herbal flavor but barely any salt or pepper. For the main course we had to wait for 35 minutes.nWater that we had on the table never got refilled.nWe are definitely not going back.
Wonderful dining experience. Everything tasted delicious. The food is solid and the service was very accommodating. Great for families. Everett was a great server and definitely steered us in the right direction for our entrees. Be mindful that parking can get crowded and unless you make a reservation you could have a bit of a wait. Outside seating is first come first served and does not provide a kids’ menu.
