Great historical site to visit

Wonderful park with cotton mill and waterfalls with nice landscaped grounds and new picnic tables. We enjoyed a pleasant Sunday picnic there. Interesting history also of the Slaters and his business partners, the Brown brothers, slave traders who later became abolitionists when it was more politically correct to arise as statesmen. It reminded me of Joe Biden, who faught in Congress against school integration because he didn't want His children in that jungle environment and wrote tough drug laws that put many blacks in jail. Now of course he wants their vote.

Slater Mill is a gem in an otherwise pretty lousy city. There's not much I like about Pawtucket and avoid it at costs for the most part but I do enjoy this place. I recommend you visit during daylight hours as there can be shady individuals hanging around the grounds.

I love visiting here. So much history. So much to see and learn. I could stay all day, read every single display information tag, soak in all the sights, sounds, and smells and yet not weary of it. I find it fascinating. A real draw for history buffs, textile fans, or machine gurus. (Maybe not so much a draw for the poor souls who aren't interested in ANY of those three things.) A Learning Paradise for whoever loves all three: history, textiles, and machines.

I spent about two hours reviewing the displays as well as the machinery. This museum provides an interesting look back at the development of mechanical machines that were designed to mass produce garment products. The docent who led the tour was very knowledgeable and friendly.
