Altara Elementary is an incredible public elementary school in Sandy, Utah! Both my daughters have had such a positive experience. I also substitute taught for one year which gave me the opportunity to get to know the teaching staff and administration. The front office ladies are extremely professional and very attentive to you and your child’s needs. The Principal is involved and caring. The crosswalk ladies know all the students names and wave at each passing car. This is the most friendly, safe and caring environment you will find for your child. We’ve lived out of state and feel so fortunate to have landed in this wonderful community. Every teacher at Altara is unique and special in their own way. Any parent who has written a negative review about Altara is merely reflecting themselves not the school or staff. If you are new to the school community, I would suggest you take a tour of the school and watch your child’s excitement to be a part of something very special in our community.

This is by far the worst school my kids have ever attended. The education system is so far behind, I worked with my kids after school just to get them ready for the next grade knowing we would be moving to a different state. All of the work was repetitive from the previous year. My kids and my family were discriminated, excluded, alienated from everyone in the "ward." Being active duty military and being isolated with no support from the teachers and staff made it so difficult for our kids to even attend Altara Elementary. Parent\teacher communication was one sided and was always favored for the kids in the "ward." Thank you Altara Elementary for making a statement on my child's life of how not to treat others that are different.

This is a School that knows how to teach. If you are considering enrollment I suggest it.

The only reason that I'm giving them 1 star is to leave the review. If I could leave negative stars I would. They have a 1st grade teacher named Ms. Kunzler who can't keep her hands off of my daughter. From her inappropriately braiding her hair in class "because she liked it better that way" (obvious grooming behavior) to jerking her face up by the chin when my daughter wasn't paying attention or got distracted. My husband was assaulted by another teacher while attempting to have a conversation about her behavior with our daughters teacher in the hallway as students were leaving for the day. The excuse she gave? That my husband is a "big guy" and somehow his stature alone intimidated her into assaulting him in "defense of another woman". Nothing was done about these incidents even though we were promised otherwise. On top of everything my daughter has been physically bullied by another little girl. My daughter has been pushed, slapped, and had mud thrown on her new clothes several times over the past couple of months. She has gone to the teacher and other staff at the school but for some reason the staff neglects to contact us about it and instead chooses to handle it internally (the same as the inappropriate touching, and also the physical assault) The only reason we find out about it is through our daughter. After contacting the school, they confirm that the incidents happen yet can't seem to find a solid reason why we aren't immediately contacted when she is physically assaulted by this other girl. This place is a joke and downright dangerous for your children. We will be pulling our daughter out this year and placing her in a different school. We might also be looking for a lawyer soon if it continues to be ignored.

I abhor having to go talk to anyone at this school bunch of arrogant better than thou attitude ignorant staff, their words came out sweet and nice but their actions tell you to F off and there's daggers behind them a complete lack of caring considering their line of work .
