Gem of a museum full of fascinating artifacts having to do with Arctic exploration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Worth going out of your way to visit.
Really good;nnInteresting historical spot. The volunteers here make the place. They’re so invested in the observatory, you can feel the interest and excitement as the tell the stories about what has happened here, since it was first built.nIncoming ships, military readiness, weather predictions & the structure itself make for a worthwhile visit. You’ll be cli,bing 4-5 flights of stairs to ascend in the observatory .
Nice information about Matthew Henson who actually arrived at the pole first. He was a guide for Perry.
Great free museum. Glad they acknowledged the African American partner in the expedition. Amazing collection of native art and clothing
