The little cabin isn't all that much took at, but it is a fascinating artifact of American history: Washington's pre-Revolutionary formative years in the British military, early westward expansion, and later Whiskey Rebellion topics all in one.nnThere has clearly been an effort at preservation, and the park along the river is nice, but it is bordered by a rather busy street and the nearest parking is a couple blocks away which necessitates crossing that street on foot, which is an adventure if you have kids with you. Probably better to park across the river near the Western Maryland Railroad and cross the pedestrian bridge over the river.
We loved the place we did the walking tour and the 2002 Virtual geocache. Very cool spot.
This was a great little historic spot with good walkability. Enjoyed listening to the history while exploring the area a bit.
An excellent preservation of the headquarters George Washington used inside Fort Cumberland. Previously relocated outside of Cumberland and then reassembled on this site. Even when it's not open to the public, there's a historical message one can access and listen to that is very informative about Washington's visits to the Cumberland area and use of this cabin. Very well done!
