I absolutely love this place, especially the library. I'm a huge fan of Albany to begin with and have been through it many many times in my 58 years on earth. My mother's family is from Haskell County, and I've been stopping in Albany for years because there have always been good milkshakes and clean bathrooms. I stop in Albany every time I come through. This time it was a couple of milk shakes, a new Case knife, and a water cup from the Old Jail.nnThe Old Jail is the prize of the town (from a visitor's perspective). If I could give it six stars I would. The exhibits are solid, and that art library is absolutely fabulous to have in a town that size.
The Old Jail Art Center is amazing. I took my niece and great nephew from Kansas to visit the Old Jail and we were in awe of the art and history in there. When we walked in we were greeted by Susan Montgomery who is super sweet and very knowledgeable of the art and museum as a whole. I have lived in Albany my whole life and it has been several years since I visited the Old Jail but I highly recommend going and taking your time and enjoying what this awesome little museum has to offer. Thank you Susan for answering all of our questions and being so sweet to me and my family. We will definitely visit again.
Awesome museum. Unusual for a small town to have a fully accredited art museum with such a vast permanent collection.
Wow! Who knew such a small town could have such amazing works of art. Famus and very valuable paintings I have only seen in books displayed openly. Wonder ancient art of Asia. You must go and see it for yourself.
The art selection is good. Small enough that you dont need a map
