Cookeville Putnam County Animal Shelter

Due to Covid we had to make an appointment to see the dogs. Which I think is a good idea. The place is beautiful. The dogs seem to have plenty of space, beds & able to go outside on their own. It's very clean & the people are very friendly. The information is on each of the dogs pen which made it really nice instead of having to ask. We felt so bad for the poor guy that has an eye that was damaged due to dog fighting. ud83dude22ud83dude21. Although I'm sure he's been through a lot he was just so friendly and lovable. Unfortunately we're looking for a small dog with hair not fur because of allergies. I hope he finds someone to love him soon...

They worked wonderfully with us to both drop off an unclaimed dog, as well as adopt one all in line with state laws.

Roger is an amazing taxidermist he work and care is so incredible we love just going by and saying hi and talking and seeing his hard work

My perfectly healthy one year old full bred yellow lab ran passed me out the door while I was walking out and took off. A few moments later after looking for her my girlfriend gets a call from Putnam County Shelter saying she was dropped off by a man and that if we want her back then I would have to pay except they had to call back to give us a price. They call back and tell me I have to pay 15 dollars to get her (which 15 to me is fine I make almost 2000 a month.) So I get there with her shot records and everything and ask her why I am having to pay them 15 dollars for my dog, my property. She says they vaccinated her. So the gave her shots without my permission, shots that she already had!!! Then she presumes to tell my girlfriend we should really make sure doesnt get out. If I was in that shelter during that moment I would put that woman in the hospital and they would have had to call the cops before I killed her. (Moral of the story, if they get a hold of your dog they hold them for ransom)

One of our favorite places to visit! We got 2 pups from there and they are both the best pets. The staff is SUPER nice and welcoming. Highly highly recommend.
