Nice place for a family outing. Informative historical tour available for just a few dollars or take self-guided tour for free. Lake Phelps adjacent.
It's been a long time since my last visit. But the restoration up to that point was wonderful. I absolutely loved it. I plan on a visit in the near future because I'm sure they have come a long way with what they were restoring at the time I was there. The tour guide was was a wonderful informative person and very friendly. Just everything about the whole thing was great I will be coming and bringing my grandchildren with me so they can actually envision the history they are learning in school. It is a wonderful way to show just how sever e and strong the inequality was in our state and many states to our children. It's so great place to show them and I'm sure most of what they see will be a complete shock to them because it's just so so real and it slaps you in the face in a good kind of way. I will be back very soon as soon as this crisis has eased off a little. Looking very forward to it and will probably be camping on site at the the campground next to it where you can walk a trail to go to Somerset place and take the tour. Also the connected campground is a wonderful campground so if you're if you regularly can't this is a win-win situation because you can have your camping trip family time and take a tour that is it just shows the amazing craftsmanship and the beautiful house and the difference between the beautiful house and where slaves lived.
I've been to visit Somerset Place frequently these past few months due to being apart of a film being shot on the premises. While there, the staff has always been attentive as well as informative. I recommend that everyone visit if given the opportunity.n#FreedomOfNc
Amazing piece of history
We stopped here in our way home from the Outer Banks last year but the site was closed for Easter holidays. This year we were lucky to stop when it was open. I strongly recommend taking the guided tour (it runs about 90 minutes) to get the most out of your visit.
