We enjoyed our visit to The Mount to learn more about Edith Wharton and her dedication to building this beautiful home and gardens. The tour is self guided. Unlike many house tours you are able to see and look at the various rooms without a lot of roped off areas. The gardens are lovely even in their late fall condition. I am sure they are amazing in the spring and summer.
Amazing place to visit in western Mass! The estate was gorgeous to walk through and the scenes were just stunning. Did the self guided tour which was absolutely perfect during COVID times. There was so much history to learn about Edith Wharton and all the people that were in her life. She has such a beautiful home. Every room is filled with such memories. The designs of each room that really gave each room a personality on its own. Would highly recommend anyone visiting western mass to stop by and at least see the beautiful gardens that Edith brought to life many years ago
Though the house is closed for the fall and winter, I enjoyed a short stroll between the carriage house and the house. The grounds are open - the woods are beautiful - and the home doesn’t lose any of its grandeur even with dormant flora and fauna. I’d recommend a walk around the grounds even in the winter months.
What a beautiful place to visit! I highly recommend going to The Mount. The grounds are lovely, which are free to roam around, but the inside of the house is worth the money as well. The museum committee has done a great job providing facts and tales about Edith Wharton's life.
The landscape and grounds were absolutely beautiful. We have been to many estates. We were pleasantly surprised at this secluded nugget. So worth the visit. Great restoration project. Even the woods with the lush green rolling ground cover was like a storybook. We only visited the grounds, not the inside of the house. We wish we had toured the house.
