This is mecca for Southern rock fans. Comprehensive display of artifacts (photos, clothing, musical instruments, etc.) from all periods of the band's history and precursors. I was impressed that some of the band members' actual clothing was hanging in the closets of their respective bedrooms and other items like Duane's book collection, curated by family members. I would encourage all fans to support the private foundation that funds the museum and is working on an expansion. House museums are costly to maintain and staff. I purchased a T shirt and book about the Big House that is excellent quality. The house tour is self guided. While everything is well done, I would hope that in the future the foundation will prepare an introductory film to introduce more casual fans to the band and its history and work on some additional in depth aids to visitors like, for example, headsets with a narrated commentary on the artifacts in each room. Maybe you could get Devon Allman and Duane Betts (Greg's and Dickey's sons) to perform the narration or others who knew the band personally! Kudos to Kirk and Kirsten West for assembling the core of the collection and keeping it together and thanks to the Foundation for maintaining a special place.
Because its the Allman Brothers house!!
Incredible place that needs to be preserved forever. Amazing history, instruments and memorabilia. An unbelievable place for any music fan, being in the house where the band lived and wrote so much music. I have been a few times. Make sure to eat at H&H and visit Rose Hill Cemetery before or after.
I have visited multiple times. Love the history and memorabilia! Amazing to be in the place where these iconic musicians lived, wrote songs and jammed. The gift shop is awesome. They have great items in the online gift shop as well. It's a must stop on your trip to Macon, GA.
We enjoyed our visit, so much memorabilia and history of the band. The Allman Bros music is timeless, they all are/were all so talented, I certainly have a greater appreciation of their music. Christy at the museum was awesome and even took pics of our family for us. If you ever find yourself in Macon, you gotta go!
